Isaiah 11:3 says the Messiah would be "of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord." Most of us read that and think it means He would understand things quickly. But when you look at the Hebrew, it gives us really cool insight.

Hebrew Insight
רִיחַ - rîah
Pronunciation: roo'-akh | Meaning: to smell, to scent, to perceive, accept | Strong's: H7306
|
The phrase translated "And shall make him of quick understanding" comes from the Hebrew word rîah (H7306) - which literally means "to smell, scent, perceive odour, accept."
It's saying He would have a supernatural ability to SMELL. He would "instinctively" perceive and sense what is of God and what is not.
In Hebrew thought, smell represents a deep form of discernment. Unlike sight and hearing, which can be deceiving, smell is instinctual and immediate. You know instantly when food is rotten. You don't have to analyze it or think about it... your senses tell you before your mind catches up.
That's the kind of spiritual perception the fear of the Lord produces in you.
This is why Proverbs 9:10 says the fear of the Lord is the BEGINNING of wisdom. Without the fear of the Lord, you're trying to navigate the spiritual realm using only your eyes and ears. But God wants to activate something deeper in us.

"In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge. The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death."
- Proverbs 14:26-27 (KJV)
|
Did you catch that? The fear of the Lord gives you confidence, gives your children safety and stability, IS a fountain of life to you, and protects you from the snares of death. The fear of the Lord produces amazing blessings in our life!!

"The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant."
- Psalm 25:14 (KJV)
|
The fear of the Lord positions you for revelation and secrets from God. When you walk in holy reverence and awe of who He is, He begins to reveal things to you that He doesn't reveal to everyone. He trusts you with His secrets.
I believe God is raising up a generation of believers who will walk in the fear of the Lord - not in religious terror, but in a deep, Spirit-led awareness of His presence and His ways. A generation that can "smell" the difference between what is of God and what is not.
